Great question! Yes, in fact, tooth decay is preventable! Decay, which is caused by sugars left in your child’s mouth, can turn into an acid, which in turn can break down his or her teeth. Children are at high risk for tooth decay for a simple reason: many children and adolescents tend to be lax in their oral hygiene habits.
So, how can your child prevent tooth decay?
- Start early. After the age of two, brush your child’s teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day. And, if possible, clean between the teeth with dental floss at least once a day, preferably before they go to bed.
- Don’t allow your little ones to eat after cleaning teeth at bedtime, as salivary flow decreases while they sleep and their teeth become vulnerable to cavities.
- Do not allow your little ones to nibble food or sip drinks continuously, and keep in mind that a low-sugar diet also helps keep tooth decay at bay. Allow time between meals for saliva to neutralize acids and repair the teeth.
- Drinking water frequently throughout the day can also reduce the possibility of new cavities forming.
- Dental sealants can also protect your children’s teeth from cavities. Sealants, which are applied to the chewing surfaces of molars, act as a shield between the tooth and harmful bacteria.
Finally, make sure your child visits Pioneer Dental approximately every six months for a checkup and routine cleaning! Please give us a call at our West Bend, WI office.

We have an exciting new piece of equipment in the Pioneer Dental office!
The laser we are using is the Epic Diode laser from Biolase!
This can be used to assist in the treatment of periodontal disease, as well as for treatment of painful mouth sores, TMJ discomfort, low level laser therapy (LLLT) for other areas of discomfort, or to release those who have tongue ties or large frenums. Dr. Meyers has done nearly 20 hours of continuing education on it already and is in the process of getting himself and all our hygienists certified on its use!
Ask about it at your next appointment!

Throughout the year we collect names of Pioneer Dental patients who refer us to their friends and family and we draw a yearly winner of Packer Tickets!

(Does anyone recognize this Packer quarterback?)
This year the winner receives two club indoor tickets for the Packer vs. Lions game on December 28th! The indoor club seats are full seats with cup holders (not bleacher seats), in a climate controlled environment. It has multiple seats and a wait staff, as well as exclusive restrooms and exclusive access to the north endzone patio!
Here are some winners from the last few years:

And THIS is the view from the seats! Who wouldn't want to win these tickets?

Do you want to win the tickets this year? Be sure to refer our practice to everyone that you know!

This October, Dr. Meyers and his family will be traveling to Guatemala with a non-profit from Cedarburg, Time & Talents for Children Inc. to provide much needed dental treatment for children in the Coban area of Guatemala. This will be the family's third trip to Guatemala with the organization!
The mission of the trip is best put, "Time and Talents for Children, Inc. is an organization formed in 2009 to provide dental care to children and to build and improve facilities that serve children. TNT4C grew from our collective experiences with other organizations giving our volunteers and members experience and foresight. It is a way that the volunteers that are devoted to this cause can participate in a program that will relieve pain and help children to become self reliant adults. We are an inter-denominational, non-ethnic organization working for children."
